Charging in France: 127,000 points available according to the charging infrastructure barometer by AVERE France and the Ministry of Ecological transition, based on data by Gireve

127,000 charging points in France – April 2024

As of March 31, 2024, France boasts an impressive network of 127,287 publicly accessible charging points, marking a significant milestone in the country’s transition to sustainable transportation.

Published on April 8, 2024, this report by AVERE-France and the Minister of Energy transition, based on our data, provides valuable data on the growth and trends shaping France’s EV charging infrastructure. The first quarter of 2024 witnessed a remarkable 13.8% increase in installations compared to the previous quarter, totaling 9,278 new charging points. With some 3,940 charging points installed, March 2024 was the most prolific month in the last twelve months! The first quarter of the year ended with 9,278 installations, up 13.8% on the previous quarter.

Fast charging at the center of the expansion of EV charging in France

Fast recharging is taking a growing share of public recharging, reaching 18% of the installed base for the first time (8% for ultra-fast recharging). This compares with 14% in March 2023 (6% THP) and 10% in March 2022 (3% THP). This phenomenon can also be observed in the total installed capacity indicator: 4.8 MW installed to date, with almost 10% in the first quarter of 2024 alone. However, these substantial deployments must not distract us from the challenges of infrastructure availability, particularly for fast and ultra-fast charging.
