Why EV roaming is the missing link in the UK charging experience

A fragmented experience holding back EV adoption

The UK is moving fast toward an electric future, with new petrol and diesel car sales ending by 2030. Yet the public charging experience remains fragmented and often frustrating. A lack of coverage, unreliable infrastructure, and multiple apps or payment methods are slowing down adoption and limiting user trust.

Cybersecurity and enhanced user experience

Roaming is more than a convenience, it’s a building block for scalable, interoperable infrastructure. It enables data sharing, smart charging features, and consistent user experiences. Although the UK’s 2023-2024 Public Charge Point Regulations (PCPR) introduced requirements for ad-hoc payments and roaming partnerships, further enforcement, support, and standardisation are needed.
