28K charging points are now available to the public in France for all EV users.

28,928 Charging Points Are Available In France – Nov, 2020

28,928 public charging points are open and available in France at the end of October, 2020. This represents a 0.2% increase compared to June, 2020 (after data cleansing). Installation projects have been slowed down due to the crisis but also due to the loss of 868 charging points when two main charging network were shut down in the South of France this summer.

Since our last barometer in June, an important data cleansing process was implemented by GIREVE to tackle data redundancy. 3.4% of the database (1,000 charging points) is concerned, due to the way some operators count their charging points when declaring them. This situation can be noticed in other European countries. A plan of action is being implemented to reinforce the liability of charging point declaration.

According to Cécile Goubet, Avere-France’s Executive Officer “If the government is to reach 100,000 public charging points by the end of 2021, all existing support will be needed. Financial support of the ADVENIR program has been increased, going from 2,000€ to 9,000€ for an installation project depending on the power delivered.”

A majority of public charging points (alsmost 70%) deliver fast charging (14-22 kW). There is a high demand for rapid charging in roaming situations, but the number increases slowly and was the most impacted by GIREVE’s data cleansing. Still, the number has increased by 2.7% since June, 2020 after data cleansing.

“All players are willing to invest to prepare the future. Recovery plans tend to be environment-oriented and foster energy transition, which benefits the entire EV ecosystem” said Eric Plaquet, GIREVE’s CEO.
